The Marine Special Operations Support Group trains, equips, structures and provides specially qualified Marine forces, including operational logistics, intelligence, multipurpose canines, firepower control teams and communications support. The goal is to sustain worldwide special operations missions as directed by the commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (COMMARFORSOC).
MSOSG continues to contribute directly to MARSOC's overseas contingency operations, conducting missions in more than 18 countries in four Geographic Component Commands -- U.S. Central Command, U.S. Africa Command, U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Southern Command. Many of these missions have been focused on combat operations but also have included other activities such as partner nation training, security assistance and providing subject matter expert guidance.
MSOSG's mission is to support MARSOC teams with critical enabling support and capabilities and to train, equip and deploy forces that are tasked with forging relationships that cross national and cultural barriers. The support group is a critical component of MARSOC's core strength: scalable, task organized, fully enabled forces with robust command and control. MARSOC units have the ability to fuse critical information, influence key decision makers and synchronize operations to produce accurate operational and strategic effects because of the well-trained Support Group Marines who are integrated throughout every MARSOC tactical formation.
Deploying a fully enabled unit is one of the distinguishing attributes of MARSOC. MARSOC units are enabled fully with intelligence, logistics, communications, multi-purpose canine support, joint tactical air controllers and explosive ordnance disposal. The MSOSG recently has established three new battalions as part of its "Right Force," increasing MARSOC's ability to deploy fully enabled SOF supported with organic logistics, and MSOSG will continue to increase in enablers and combat logistics manpower through 2016. As a result, MARSOC forces are capable of conducting widely distributed special operations in austere environments in whatever clime and place we are called upon.
