Travel - Military Lodging: Tips
Military Lodging: Tips

  • Doing a little research before your trip can save you lots of time and frustration. What if your Space A flight lands at a remote base after normal business hours? Here's where you can find Service Lodging and Dining Facilities for the bases you might want to use during your travels.

  • You can access very in-depth information from our Military Installations Guide. Features for each installation include: community data, medical and dental facilities data, education and employment data, commonly-referenced phone numbers, commissary and exchange operations, transportation, government housing, and "must know" items.

  • If you want more technical aviation information about airports, the Airfield Information site features detailed information on US airports, including military bases. For some airfields, the phone number for base operations or a link to related Web pages is included. Orientation maps are included in the site. The installations on this site can be searched either by airport name or three letter identifier code.

  • The Army's Lodging Success Program (LSP) offers special rates for hotels located near Army installations. This valuable program includes low rates on hotels in the higher-priced metro areas of Atlanta, San Antonio, the National Capital Region, Hampton Roads, Newport News, Miami, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Navy offers a similar program, called the Navy Elite Lodging Plan. When government lodging is certified as "not available", you can ask the Commercial Travel Office to book a Navy Elite hotel for you. Choose from three different types of hotel accommodations - economy, mid-priced and deluxe properties. Hotels selected for inclusion in the program meet the following criteria:

    • All must offer rates that are at or below the local per diem rate for lodging.
    • All must be U.S. Government Safety/Fire Approved with a FEMA-assigned number.
    • In general, all locations are within a 5-mile radius or a 15-minute driving distance during rush hour to the Navy Base of assignment.
    • All can be booked and confirmed via the airlines' Computer Reservation Systems.
    • All have quality accommodations, well-maintained facilities and offer special amenities for Navy travelers.
    • All have upgraded rooms within the last five years or plan to carry out renovation.

  • Check out our Military Travel Discount Center regularly for hot travel deals and discounts offered specifically to the military community.
