A wounded U.S. Iraq veteran says actor-philanthropist Jack Scalia never turned over any of the funds he helped raise for injured soldiers.
J.R. Martinez, who now plays a vet on the soap opera "All My Children," told the New York Post that Scalia's Operation American Spirit charity was willing to use wounded war veterans to raise money but wasn't so anxious to use that money to help their comrades.
"We never, ever received money from Jack Scalia," said Martinez, who took part in a cross-country fund-raising bicycle ride on the promise that money collected would go to a charity Martinez supported, the Post said.
Scalia's attorney, Dennis Holahan, told the newspaper the $103,427 raised by the riders was used to cover costs. Scalia also launched a charity for Sept. 11, 2001, that raised $24,000 and paid out $12,300.
