CG Closes Search Over Sea of Cortez

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- A U.S. Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircrew completed their sixth search, a 990 square-mile area in the Sea of Cortez near Isla San Luis, Mexico, Sunday as part of the overall search effort for seven people missing from a charter fishing boat that sank there Sunday, July 3.

No sign of the missing fishermen was found during today's search.

The Sacramento-based long-range search and rescue plane was requested by the Mexican Navy who is coordinating the search. The Coast Guard has again been requested by the Mexican authorities to conduct another search scheduled for Monday.

The Coast Guard has searched approximately 4,600 square miles of ocean and land since the Mexican Navy requested assistance in search efforts.

The 11th Coast Guard District's search and rescue coordinators and Mexican Navy search mission coordinators have continued to share knowledge, calculations and other resources as they plan for future search operations.
