ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Capt. George Whitbred, commander, Navy Region Midwest Reserve Component Command (NRWRCC), relieved Lt. Cmdr. Jack O'Neill, commanding officer of Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Rock Island, March 19 due to loss of confidence in O'Neill's ability to command.
The relief occurred as the result of an investigation into allegations of hazing during a drill weekend as well as other command climate issues. O'Neill has been temporarily reassigned to the Army Garrison at Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill.
Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Cissell of the NRWRCC staff has taken command temporarily until a relief is ordered to NOSC Rock Island.
