Afghan Air Force Snubs Two Women Pilots
Officials said the Afghan Air Force is ignoring two Afghan women who have returned to Afghanistan after training to fly helicopters in the United States.
Sourya Saleh and Masooma Hussaini are the first female military helicopter pilots since the Soviet's withdrawal, Khaama Press reported, and haven't received any response from the air force about their service.
Khaama Press said Saleh and Hussaini completed 18 months of training in the United States, and the pair said they think the air force will recognize them soon, refusing to believe the military has abandoned them.
Khaama Press said there are 1,000 women in the Afghan military of 187,000 troops, and said the new government has failed to provide full business and education opportunities outside of the home for Afghan women.
