TRICARE Young Adult Standard

TRICARE Young Adult Standard is a health care program for young adults between the ages of 21 - 26 who are no longer eligible to remain on their parent's health care program. TRICARE Young Adult Standard covers health care and pharmacy benefits.

TRICARE Young Adult Standard is considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

How It Works

  • Visit any TRICARE-authorized provider, network or non-network.
  • If you see a network provider, you'll pay less out of pocket and the provider will file claims for you.
  • You do not need a referral for any type of care but some services may require prior authorization.

If you see a network provider, the program works just like TRICARE Standard. If you choose to go to a non-network provider, it works just like TRICARE Extra

Costs

The program has an annual deductible and copayments which are due at time of service just like the TRICARE Standard & Extra programs. The only difference between TRICARE Young Adult Standard and TRICARE standard is that under TRICARE Young Adult Standard you will have to pay a monthly premium.

The current premium is $228 per month. When you first enroll, you must pay the first two month's premiums up-front. You can pay by check, money order, or credit/debit card. From then on all monthly premiums must be made by automatic bank transfer or recurring credit/debit card payments.

The annual deductible and copayments are the same as TRICARE Standard and Extra.
