When you transition out of the military one very important consideration is your health insurance. While you are in the service you and your family have TRICARE coverage available to you. Unless you are retiring that insurance coverage ends when you get out. What options do you have for health insurance after leaving the military?

If you have children who are over 21 and are no longer eligible for TRICARE what health insurance options do they have?

TRICARE and Military OneSource are co-hosting a webinar on Wednesday August 17, 2016 to discuss health care options available to TRICARE beneficiaries once they are no longer eligible for any TRICARE health plan coverage. The webinar begins at noon EDT.

To register for the webinar go to https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2644929472493528067. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited due to system capacity. Networked users can access the webinar via the Defense Collaboration Services at: https://conference.apps.mil/webconf/LosingTRICARE. For audio, dial 1-866-724-3083, access code 1085851.

Questions will be taken immediately after the presentation. Participants must avoid sharing personal health information when asking a question.

The featured speaker for the webinar is Mr. Mark Ellis, a senior health program analyst with the Defense Health Agency. He manages the Continued Health Care Benefit and the TRICARE Young Adult Programs.

The TRICARE Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP) is a premium-based plan that offers temporary transitional health coverage for 18-36 months after TRICARE eligibility ends. If you qualify, you can purchase the CHCBP within 60 days of the loss of TRICARE eligibility.

The TRICARE Young Adult Program offers premium-based coverage for unmarried, adult children who have "aged out" of regular TRICARE coverage. The plan provides comprehensive medical and pharmacy benefits. TRICARE young adult can be purchased by eligible children ages 21 - 26.

There are a number of health care options available to service members and their families when they lose TRICARE eligibility. It’s important to know what these options are so that you will continue to meet the health care requirement of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
