It's tough. It's a challenge. And you'll find it in every military service: training programs. Requirements and training period length are different for each service; see the chart below for further details. For tips on how to ace basic training, see the Surviving Basic Training page.

Training Programs

Army 1-week indoctrination and 9 weeks Basic Training, followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT)
Navy 8 weeks Basic Training, followed by Intermediate Training, and Advanced Training for certain specialties
Air Force 6 and a half-week long Basic Military Training Program (BMT), and Tech School for certain specialties
Marine Corps 12 weeks Basic Training, followed by Infantry or Combat Training, followed by MOS Training for certain specialties
Army National Guard 1 week indoctrination and 9 weeks Basic Training, followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
Coast Guard 8 weeks Basic Training, normally followed by Class A-School training for certain specialties
