Coast Guard Stations to Receive Top Honor U. S. Coast Guard

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The members of Coast Guard Stations St. Inigoes and Curtis Bay will receive the prestigious Kimball Award for excellence in crew proficiency and boat and personal protective equipment condition.
The ceremony for Station St. Inigoes will be held Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Webster Field Annex of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.
Station Curtis Bay's ceremony will be held Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Md.
Named for Sumner I. Kimball, the general superintendent of the U.S. Life Saving Service from 1878 to 1915, the award reflects the Coast Guard's commitment to Kimball's high standards.
Less than 10 percent of Coast Guard stations receive the award due to stringent eligibility requirements.
The members of the each station will be presented with Kimball Pennants for display on their unit's mast.
