
Coast Guard Suspends Search for 42-Year-Old Man in Monterey Bay U. S. Coast Guard

COAST GUARD ISLAND, ALAMEDA, Calif. - The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search at approximately 2:50 p.m. today for the 42-year-old man reported missing on board an overdue 16-foot pleasure craft in Monterey Bay.
The owner of the vessel was reported missing Friday at approximately 11:00 p.m. by a friend when he failed to return home Friday at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco launched an HH-65 helicopter, the Coast Guard Station Monterey Bay deployed a 47-foot motor life boat, and State Park Officials searched Monterey Bay shortly after receiving the report.
The Coast Guard has done a total of nine parallel and shoreline searches approximately 19 miles along the coast line and extending 3 miles out to sea. On the fourth search, the HH-65 located the 16-foot vessel 1 mile south of Moss Landing in Monterey Bay at approximately 8:00 a.m. today.
The weather on scene was winds 5-15 knots, waves 1-3 feet with swells 6-10 feet. The current water temperature is 56 degrees with an estimated survival time of 9.5 hours.
The name of the man is being held pending the notification of the next of kin.
