Health Care Careers in the Naval Reserve
The Naval Reserve needs healthcare professionals in nearly every medical and dental field. Navy Veterans may receive bonuses and enter at advanced rank and pay.

Eligible civilians can also earn extra cash, build a military retirement and enjoy other reserve benefits for as little as one weekend a month.

Enlisted Programs


Naval Reserve hospital corpsmen and dental technicians play vital roles in Navy health care. Navy veterans can continue to build their military retirement while pursuing a civilian career. The Reserve Allied Medical Program pays tuitions and fees for qualified hospital corpsmen and dental technicians pursuing a college degree in advanced medical technology.

Veterans of other services in related healthcare specialties may also be eligible to enter Naval Reserve at advanced rank and pay grade. Qualified civilians can also enter at advanced rank and pay based on experience.

Officer Programs


Qualified college graduates in specialties sought by by the Naval Reserve can earn direct appointments as Reserve officers.

Most direct appointment Naval Reserve officers attend a two-week indoctrination course at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., to learn about the Navy and the Naval Reserve. Monthly weekend duty is performed at a naval activity near home, while the two weeks of active duty training are usually served at a Naval base, air station, Navy or Naval Reserve ship, or in some cases overseas.
