Browser-Based Games:
Death
From Above
WWI flight simulator by Shockwave.com and produced with
Macromedia's Flash. Watch the preview movie before the game
- it's worth it.
Tank
Wars
A fun tank simulator set amid city streets where you can
battle other tanks and helicopters. Surprisingly good graphics
and gameplay for a game produced in Flash.
TBS
Superstation: Virtual Games
A real-time strategy game testing your ability to lead a
combined-arms force. Be patient when trying to load it -
there are a few bugs and it can be a bit temperamental.
Sea
Strike
Reminiscent of Space Invaders, your submarine must destroy
all the enemy ships and subs before they get you.
Top Online PC Games:
Half
Life: Counter Strike
The
best of all military-style multiplayer games at the moment.
Counter-Strike is team-based, and casts players in the role
of terrorist or counter-terrorist. Superior graphics, fantastic
gameplay - I have yet to find a person who was not hooked
on Counter Strike after playing it a couple of times.
Delta
Force Land Warrior
Uses the same graphics engine that helps train the U.S.
Army's elite Land Warrior soldiers. West Point actually
uses the squad-level tactical combat simulation as part
of its cadet military science education program.
Steel
Beasts
Steel Beasts is a highly accurate simulator of the US M1A1
and German Leopard 2A4 tanks that is designed to let you
create and play scenarios of modern armored warfare on your
PC. Steel Beasts can be played on many different levels:
from gunner in a single tank to company commander.
What
We're Waiting For:
WWII
Online
A massive simulation where players will participate
in the land, air and sea battles of World War II.
Players can play infantrymen, drive a tank or fly a plane,
man a ship or a submarine. The war's outcome will be decided
by the players and not history.
Medal
of Honor: Allied Assault
Produced by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks Interactive,
the first two Medal of Honor games was released soley for
PlayStation. Allied Assault is this series' first venture
into the PC gameworld. Based on initial reports from the
latest E3 conference, this game will be a doozie. Medal
of Honor: Allied Assault (MOHAA) places you in the role
of Lt Mike Powell, an officer in the 1st Ranger BN who will
be eventually recruited by the OSS. The game begins with
you in a Higgins boat heading into Omaha Beach for the start
of the Normandy Invasion - D-Day. The reports from the front
indicate that this portion of the game is straight out of
Saving Private Ryan and the gameplay is just as engaging
as the movie. It is supposedly very realistic and captivated
everyone at E3 who had a chance to view it. Keep your ear
to the ground for this one.
Operation
Flashpoint
War breaks out in Europe in 1985. You will be able to
control various cold war military forces and equipment -
infantry, mobile, armor and aircraft - in large and detailed
3D environment. This is a first-person shooter on
steroids. I played the demo and I could not believe how
"big" the experience felt. Very realistic, very
accurate, much fun - We'll be looking forward to this release.
Real
War
The game was first developed for the US military by Virginia-based
OC Incorporated, a defense contractor for the Joint Chiefs
of Staff. OCI joined with Rival Interactive and created
Real War, a real-time-strategy game where players will command
a combined-arms attack. The game is scheduled to be released
late summer 2001.
