The 31st edition of Shark Week will run July 28-Aug. 4 on Discovery Channel.
Comedian and Marine veteran Rob Riggle, who co-starred last year with Shaquille O'Neal in "Shaq Does Shark Week," will be back this year. Riggle will take a "Shark Trip" with celebrity friends. His credits include "The Daily Show," "Modern Family" and "The Hangover."
Discovery promised more than 20 hours of shark programming throughout the week, but details will be coming in a few weeks.
The channel highlighted its work with nonprofit groups, shark experts, marine biologists and science institutions. The week will showcase the first drone-towed seal decoy and examine new technology for shark surveillance.
Discovery will share the latest shark news across digital and social media platforms.
Shark Week continues to be a ratings performer on television. Last year's event ranked first in cable prime time for the week in these important age groups: 25-to-54, 18-to-49 and 18-to-34. "Shaq Does Shark Week" was cable's No. 1 for the week with all viewers 25-to-54 as well as men in the age group.
