A-10 Warthog Shot Down Over Baghdad
April 08, 2003 - A coalition A-10 "Warthog" warplane was shot down near Baghdad early Tuesday in what was believed to be the first downing of a coalition aircraft by an Iraqi surface-to-air missile. The pilot ejected safely and was recovered by coalition ground forces near the airport, U.S. Central Command said. The pilot was reported to be in good condition. Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, deputy operations director at Central Command, said military officials "believe it was hit by surface-to-air missile fire." It's sad to see that happen to a Hog, I always loved seeing them overhead.
This video is NOT a mission that got shot down. This is the HUD video of Demob 71/72 flight (72's video) that was a successful CAS mission conducted around NW Baghdad. There was AAA present during the mission, but it did not shoot down these A-10's. Need to properly label this video 'cuase it not a shoot-down.
