Carter pulled us out of the Moscow '80 Olympics due to Ivan invading the Graveyard of Empires. Over 15,000 Russian troops died, mostly draftees, over nine yrs. One horror story was that the mujhahdeen rebels would skin alive a Russian POW. Would not surprise anyone who knew WWII history.
