French paratroopers dropping into hostile territory near terrorist havens on the Libya-Niger border. Taken during an airborne operation at the 'Salvador Pass' at the border between Libya and Niger, the video shows part of the anti-jihadist operation in the Sahel – the desert region which stretches across North Africa. With Islamic State increasing its presence in the beleaguered North African State, the region, a gateway to Europe, has been of even greater concern to France and its allies in recent months.

Looked like a well done operation. Unless there was a force already on the ground with vehicles, those guys had a long hump in the desert. Because I'm not up on the French order of battle, were these Foreign Legion troops? The paratroopers loading on the plane reminded me of several combat equipment jumps I made (all training) where I couldn't get up the 3 inch ramp/runway interface without the help of the loadmasters. I always was glad, however, that I didn't carry the radios, machine guns, or mortar tubes. They looked like they had footlockers under their reserves. We didn't jump out, we fell out.
