KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) — An elite U.S. special forces team rescued an American doctor who had been abducted in Afghanistan, but lost one of their own members in the mission, officials said. Dr. Dilip Joseph was freed 11 hours after his captors released two other kidnapped staffers of his nonprofit agency, Morning Star Development, the organization said Sunday. Hours later, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced that “a U.S. service member was killed in the operation.” A U.S. official said the man who was shot dead belonged to the Navy’s Special Warfare Development Group, more commonly known as SEAL Team Six. The elite unit is the same one that took part in the raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, but the official didn’t know if the fallen service member was involved in that operation.

Does anyone out there think that the USN SEALs have been over-exposed? Books, videos, Hollywood, etc. The Green Berets had their days in the sun, and that was in the 60s. The last movie about the British SAS was "The Final Option", 1982. Enough, enough.

Give them there due. I'd rather hear and see it now and not when someone is killed. Don't compare this to the Vietmam war. All our boys got screwed over for that war. I know, I lost a some friends there.

SEALs have their day in the sun because the head of Special Ops is an Navy Admiral, ex-SEAL. If if had been an Army guy it would have been Delta, Special Forces, or Rangers. All of whom have as much combat time as Seals. If one can't see water, taste water, feel water, or smell water then a SEAL team doesn't belong there. SEALs didn't do too well in Panama (lost most of a team trying to take out one airplane) and in Granada (lost a whole team that drowned during an insertion attempt). BUT they did a great job killing Osama because they had all the resources they needed and a will to win.
