This SgtMajor is a disgrace to all who have worn or will wear the rank of Sgt Major in all the services. His performance is equal to that of the lower enlisted soldiers in the video. I would hope his Commander has/will give him a letter of reprimand. The rank of SgtMajor or Command Sergeants Major is one of respect and should be honored by all who serve. CSM Hood, retired

This SgtMaj is not a "disgrace." There is nothing wrong with this video or the fact that he was dancing.

Amazing. Really amazing. Bad enough that knowing some members of that unit had better things to do, better places to go, and better people, again better people, one more time, better people to see, on a Friday or Saturday night, than to get dragged down, to this ball, which I’m sure command made it mandatory that they had to be there. And for what, to watch this SGM and the rest of these Marines do the shake and bake dance to the funkey monkey???? What a waste of time, and money that was extorted, from those who didn’t want to be at this thing in the first place. Especially doing this in uniform. In my opinion, dancing in the military is loss of military bearing, in or out of uniform in the presence of your peers, subordinates, and superiors. I remember when I was ordered to go to these mandatory military social functions, it just cramped my style, and being there the whole time, was just so stifling. Especially being forced and required to listen to all that DA DA DA DA DA music. When I could have been in Austin, with my girl friend, at our private club, doing the two step, to real music. Country / Western, rock in country, Cajun country, Cajun blues, rock in blues, country blues. It really sickens me , from here to eternity, that military commanders, make mess like this mandatory, disgusting out their subordinates, against their will. This is why I think social functions in the military should be abolished. All these do is contradict the “no frat” policy the services have in their regulations. Most of the time, when the riot racket started, I skated out. Nothing was said to me when I did that, come the next duty day, thank god. I never took my girl friend, who is civilian WAF (Women Against Feminism) as she didn’t want any part of military politics, and I didn’t blame her. By the way who is that female in the white dress, in the background??? A female combat marine?

@31711239. Now your last sentence I totally agree with. "Enough said." Look here foul mouth, CSM Hood is correct. Dancing in uniform does make the uniform look bad. You need to clean-up your act. PRIVATE. So AT EASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

@15598712. That is your Opinion. Again, I'm sure there was many who was ordered to go to this thing, didn't really have a need to be forced to watch this shake and bake dance, floor show.

A responsibility of a Sergeant Major (one of very many)is to represent the issues and concerns of the enlisted Marines to their commanding officer. A commanding officer will not normally make a decision that effects troop morale and welfare without first consulting with the Sergeant Major. Enlisted personnel and officers as a matter of fact, do no want to get on the bad side of a Sergeant Major. He is exceptional at his job and has been around long enough to know a tremendous amount of other senior enlisted Marines. I believe there are approximately 1,600 Sergeant Majors actively serving in the Corps today. To possibly achieve the rank of Sergeant Major, during your career you cannot make any significant mistakes and you should be consistently ranked #1 or #2 among your peers. I take exception with those that took offense to a Sergeant Major dancing at a Marine Corps Ball. ALL MARINES like to see their seniors act like normal people. He wasn't offensive or disrespectful, he was having fun. Did you observe the positive effect he had on his junior Marines! I am a retired Marine Corps Captain who served 8-years enlisted and 12 as an officer. I salute the Sergeant Major!

This marine rocked that ball. With that being said, is there any particular reason that an officer/human being cannot enjoy himself???? That's a pretty asinine statement in my opinion. Your beliefs and opinions are just that- YOURS! If all officers, or any marine/military man or woman thought the way you do, we would have a military full of pricks. In addition, all those returning from war would suffer PTSD just from the inability to release some stress and enjoy themselves. You must be a pretty uptight officer based on your comment. Learn how to enjoy life a little. It's not all about war and screaming orders as a show of superiority. Maybe you would enjoy life more if you let loose like this officer. Relax...enjoy...be thankful that you've been blessed with another day on this earth.
