I don't believe that it is appropriate for women to be in close quarters with men in combat units. I don't believe the men should train for combat against women, simply because women are not adequate physical opponents for men. The physical fitness requirements for females is just over half what it is for males.

Women are in the Armed Forces and we are here to stay, like it or not. I’m thinking if I were a man I would want the women I am in combat with trained as well as I am. Also, if women train in close combatives with men in a training environment they would be more likely to adequately defend themselves and their brothers and sisters in arms. What you said about being adequate physical opponents just shows ignorance in my opinion. That would be like saying because a man is not of average size he would not make and adequate physical opponent for an average size man.

Men and women fight in the same area of operation, and therefore, must be able to survive in the same environment. If a woman or a small male are attacked by a large combatant saying, "You are bigger and stronger that I am" is not an option. Combatives teaches Soldiers to survive and not give up. What you said sets back women's rights decades.

The Army would not promote this video if she had lost. Where's the video of female sailors not being able to push open the overhead hatch during emergency?

Notice there was no striking and the woman was bigger. Is this supposed to make me think women are suited for combat now? I don't think so.

combatives vid is NA in some areas. At Ft Jackson, trainees tell me that they get a half day on combatives and training is being cut back every day. Obama is doing a superb job of killing our military.

People should view Israel for proper training. The IDF trains very well and very thoroughly, men and women.

I don't feel that men should be wrestling women. Is it me or is this guy always trying to put her into a missionary position underneath him?

Only reason this video is up is because she won. And that we're all supposed to believe women belong in the Infantry. Haven't fooled me. LEt's throw them both in full kit and let them have at it again.

If they are wrestling, neither one is very good. If it is a fight then there should be chokes, pulled punches & kicks. They seem to be in relativity good shape though.

I think this is great training for women. In combat i would want to know that my bunker buddy (woman or man) would be able to back me up when the shit hits the fan.

What "gender-norming" idiot thought this up? Is this another Obama-funded "feel good" exercise? In real combat, this gal would have been dead or raped in 30 seconds.

I see comments reflect "Combat Chivalry" & "Male Ego" as the underlying issue. "Close Combat Skills" in the "Field" are essential, regardless of Gender. This appears to be "College Style" Wrestling, & not "Combat Style",which would dictate a better, & forceful "Ground Technique" by both "Fighters. A fighters greatest challenge is "Conditioning" then "Technique Development". These "Fighters" appear in "Condition"."Sealing The Bone,& Sealing The Blood" are "Ancient" objectives of any Trained Fighter. Men & Women are both capable of such. This "Thread" is APPROPRIATE, because the bottom line is both Genders must know how to "Take Life" within 45 Seconds of initial contact. When life is at issue, your gender does not matter; nor your "sensitivity" to Gender. I would expect any "Soldier" to carry their weight in the "Combat Arena",& there are no exceptions because of "sensitivities".Some of the "Greatest Stick Fighters", are in their 70's - Men & Women -. The "Oriental" mind does not differentiate between Male & Female Fighters, only "Style".The Western Mind Set must change or suffer from intentional stupidity. - De Oppresso Liber -

I do agree with 7635211 Women are here to stay, like it for not. In addition I also believe that the female physical training should be identical to man. Same age group as man then same physical fitness standards. I don't thinks it is fair then to man to say well she is a girl she need to get 24 minutes for the same 2 mile run than I'm running in 17 minutes. The better we train woman in the military the less of an obstruction they would be in combat and provably save some brothers in arms life.

Oh please. That's a great demonstration of defensive offensiveness on the male's part. As I watched, I found myself muttering, "don't hurt her," don't hurt her."

Unfortunately, our female soldiers are in this position with our male soldiers more often than anyone will dare to say. This would never happen in combat though, someone would have a knife and it would be all over in a few seconds.

It is alright for women to go into combat but not alright to train with men for combat. Wake up, this is 2011 and women in the army is here to stay. We may not be as strong as men, but we definitely can out think a man. It's not the strength but the strategy that takes a man down.

What does Obama have to do with this? You people seem to forget that Bush got in two wars. The good thing Obama has done is ending this mess that Bush got us into. Females die in war just like men do.

Just another step closer to a unisex military which should help save some money there. As for her being bigger, did you watch to the end where she stands up and her blouse is open? She has like a 28 inch waist. I would hazard a guess they are in the same weight class which is how these matches are designed. When I was going through the Marine Corps Martial Arts Training we were mixed gender as well. I watched one female Marine throw her opponent who was almost twice her weight. I think it is especially important to train the women as they also have to face potential assaults in foreign countries who look down on them because they are in uniform, SWA especially.

There are undoubtedly some females who can beat some males at any number of things, including sports. Think of how, for example, an average male tennis player, would fare against Serena Williams. But those bell curves only overlap at the extremes. Most men can physically dominate most females. Ever wonder why there are battered women's centers, but none for battered men? So we should not fall victim to allowing what are essentially freakish aberrations to set policy. And by the way, any boosting of female morale in the wake of the fight shown here comes at the expense of male morale, so there is in fact a net loss of that most important commodity. Tom Barbarie

This video is nothing more than propaganda to promote women in combat roles. What it obviously showed, though, is that the male soldier was constantly apprehensive when fighting/wrestling a female. He has to be careful not to physically touch her in an inappropriate way, yet the female has no such apprehension. He was in the superior position throughout the fight but at no time used excessive physical contact like she did. If this was an all out fight, there is not doubt that she would have not survived the encounter. Ask any law enforcement officer, of unquestioned integrity (not an azz-kisser), and they will tell you that women have been allowed to fill positions that they cannot handle simply to push equality issues. I can't wait until there is truly an all out combat situation involving numerous women with enemy combatants - the outcome will prove my comment and yet it will be a sad day!

She's learned how to use leverage and endurance to win, but, I don't know that the training is showing women how to use our inherent strengths as well as it could. Women in combat is the historical norm not the exception. In the old warrior schools in Ireland, and Gaul, women had an entirely different fighting style than men which allowed them to fight from inherent strengths. Ceasar describes these techniques in his Gallic Wars and states quite plainly that he'd rather fight the men than the women any day of the week.

@ mcclainmax that "missionary" position you're referring to is actually called the "guard" and if you knew anything you'd know that she is actually in the dominant position.

@ 6962753, ur an idiot! Cuz in the real world if they are shipped out or caught in an alley off guard, chances of it being another woman they are attacked by are slim to none! So they need to be able to fend off a male attacker, and what better way to get prepared than to train with a man?!?! And also, an observation i made, is she chewing gum whilst this fight is taking place? Not a smart moves guys... chris.alexander813@gmail.com (if you would like to contact me)

Well now you have it. Proof positive women should serve in combat units and play in the NFL. Pretty convincing I'd say. Why did I doubt it?

I watched the entire video and found it troubling. I know that our EW's should be trained for this, but in the real world, I believe they would be overpowered unless highly trained in the matter of Martial Arts. In a no holes barred fight, they will get hurt, just at what level remains to be seen. Remember, dead is dead.

Why are anyone of these people in a tournament? They would not last one round in my unit. Women do not come with me when I am on mission. So that point that an enemy could attack is moot unless she is part of the female prt in afghan. In that case it seems like they picked the wrong village to go to lol.

I believe that if a woman wants to fight she has to meet the same standards as a man does. If she can't then she can serve in a non-combative zone. The same goes for men that can't be successful in the combat arena.

After watching this comic exercise, I have to be a little afraid of what the military id doing today. How weak have our forces become where they are now wrestling around with women? I guess it's just a change of the times, but it may also explain why we are still "mired" in the war. Why on earth would soldiers waste time playing around like this, especially on a video released to the public? I won't even say anything about the shrimp letting an average size girl beat him. It's a damn shame!

I won't comment on the immature comments below regarding female soldiers. Bottom line is that was not realistic. That's how my boys wrestled in school. It is up to females to be as fit as male soldiers, and trained to deal with any situation. So if I get into a situation where I have to fight the enemy by hand, I guarantee I'll use whatever force I can to survive. I may lose in the end, but I will never quit.

old style wrestling is useless in combat,, teach Mossad style hand to hand combat for best results

  37. 16950376
    16950376 Oct 02, 2011

After reading all the comments the only one who is on target is the one who advocates same training as the Israelis give all of their troops... now THAT is real training: in combat you must know how to kill,, not just wrestle. If you've never seen Mossad fighting ability, watch NCIS... or look it up online... they teach how to KILL, not woosy wrestling...

This is very good training for the women in the armed forces, people think about it no matter what type of job a woman has she can be targeted for an attack and it will probably be a man attacking her. I teach hand-to-hand combat and I feel 100% sure if that woman came in contact with the enemy she would know how to put him down. But without any training she has no chance at all.
