I'm starting to see why all the other branches make fun of the Army.

These guys are at basic. No one is high speed at basic. This NCO is doing a terrible job 1) by recording a privates failure, and 2) not doing anything to correct it, just complaining about it. Everyone is a POG at basic.

As a former Infantry DI I must say that without fully understanding the DI's intent, we should reserve judgment. No private is squared away even with prior instructions before entering the pressure that we are going to place them in. My hope is that he is using this to better equip future privates with the "what not to do" upon entering this range, before hitting the live range. Some of the worst soldiers in Basic turn out to be some of our most detailed soldiers later. Our job is to bring out the best in them by helping them to face the worst that is in them. This is nothing compared to what I have seen. Lighten up on them and take it for what its worth. 1 Team, 1 Fight. Chaplain B.

It's Okay soldier. The enemy will wait for you to go find your grenade and come back. They want to fight fair. LOL

Hahaha...what the? I honestly don't understand the excuses about them being in basic training. Sure, everyone is new at the beginning but then again either you got it or you don't. These guys clearly don't got it, and most likely never will. I mean no offence by this, just pure fact. 71 LIMA sounds just about right.

The comments are really hard on these guys. I suppose some have forgotten what the transition from civilian to soldier was like. Those DIs were a lot nicer than the ones I remember. Of course, maybe these DIs were smart enough to have realized that these two young men were nothing more than the product of their training at the time this took place...and that they would improve.

What's with the "Battle Buddy" stuff? I'm surprised the kid wasn't chewed out for having his rifle on the ground, These kids sure didn't seem to be in much of a hurry either. No excuse Craig H. USMC 81-87

I too am surprised about the rifle laying in the sand. And I have to agree that there are bone heads in each class. During BRM, another platoons private left his weapon in the fox hole. We marked back to barracks from the range in the evening, went to chow before turning in rifles back to the armorer. As we all had to stand in single file line to do this, when it was his turn, he says he forgot his. As they walked him back to the range, we(the entire company) got dusted until his return. I know not what happened to this individual as I was not in his platoon, but there were alot of unhappy souls that day. Point is, theres mistakes made everywhere. Its the reason to have BCT.
