When I was in VC 3 (Fleet Composite Squadron Three) of the U.S. we were launching RPV's (remotely piloted vehicles>>drones) as targets for the fleet and Top Gun from San Clemente Island......I made the comment to our Chief over a beer at the club that what we're seeing now in these aircraft in the early 1970's...... is "nothing to what we'll see 30-50 years from now, Chief". He said: You know, for a dumb bb stacker aviation ordnanceman....I think you're right. We of the San Clemente crew were already seeing "strange flying aircraft" approaching the Island at night and flying set courses (it appeared) over and up and down the length of the Island...then leaving on a heading that we figured would take it over Edwards AFB or over the Mojave desert in Southern California.
