April 23, 1965, Travis Air Force Base accepted the U.S. Air Force's first C-141 Starlifter known to everyone at Travis AFB as the Golden Bear. April 23, 2015 Travis celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Golden Bear's arrival and it's proud history as Travis' centerpiece. By SSgt John Ayre (60th AMW Public Affairs)

    I joined the Military and passed through Travis the same year the Golden Bear arrived at Travis an retired the same year the Golden Bear was retired frm service. I maintained the Golden Bear for 10 of its service years 1980 to 1990 349h AMS/DCM

    stationed at 60th AMS and worked on alot of c-141'sat Travis as well as the c-5. Brings back alot of memories. Also was in the PI when the POW's were flown in on a c-141.
