There are more than 2,500 job openings in the energy and manufacturing sectors in the Pittsburgh region, and several local agencies are teaming up with the Department of Energy to fill those vacancies with military veterans. A recent meeting, organized by the Energy Alliance of Greater Pittsburgh, brought together local leaders in the energy, nonprofit, university and government sectors to devise a plan. The Allegheny Conference, which oversees the Energy Alliance, had previously done research that showed veterans already possess the training, experience and teamwork skills that can make them successful in energy and manufacturing jobs. The agencies involved in implementing the new program will give a progress report on the partnership at the Allegheny Conference's annual meeting in November.
