The U.S. Military Academy at West Point held its graduation and commissioning ceremony for the Class of 2018 at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y., May 26, 2018. Nine hundred and seventy-two cadets graduated, including 193 women, 105 African-Americans, 180 Asian/Pacific Islanders, 78 Hispanics and 16 Native Americans. Of this class, 152 attended the U. S. Military Academy Preparatory School, 12 are combat veterans and 11 are foreign-national cadets. In attendance were Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and commencement speaker General Joe Dunford, Secretary of the Army Mark T. Esper and Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Mark A. Milley. Located only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution and a nationally-renowned historic site.

The purpose of the United States Military Academy is to provide the Nation with leaders of character who serve the common defense.

The undergraduates, known as Cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.
