War Dogs Join Veteran's Day Parade
NEW YORK (PIX11)– For the first time, dogs of war will join their combat brethren in the annual salute to veterans in the parade up Fifth Avenue. Among them is 7-year-old Sisi, as she is called by her handler, Retired Army Staff Sgt. Jason Bos. He spent five years in combat with the Chocolate Labrador Retriever in Iraq. “She’s my best friend,” he told PIX 11 News as walked with her along 11th Avenue, near the hotel where’s they’re staying. Sisi joined Bos on 100 missions, mostly tracking down IED explosives. They got separated after Bos left the military. But last April they were reunited in an emotional reunion you can see in the report I filed for our 10 pm broadcast. It was incredible to see how the canine jumped and kissed her comrade in arms the moment she recognized him. Bos has since adopted the dog. The American Humane Society was instrumental in getting half a dozen military dogs in the parade to accept the salutes and thanks from grateful Americans. They will ride with their handlers in their own float. Bos said he feels honored to be taking part in the parade with the dog who was at his side in Iraq.
