Religious Extremists Attack with Axes

(Wall Street Journal) - BEIJING — Chinese state television showed a teenage suspect confessing to an ax attack on a game room in China's western Xinjiang region and saying he had been persuaded by an accomplice to wage holy war. The attack is one of a series in China since October that suggests that some members of the region's mostly Muslim Uighur ethnic group are being influenced by Islamic extremism. China Central Television identified the man as a 19-year-old named Murzahti and said he was one of three people who entered the game room in Xinjiang's Hotan city on June 14 and attacked players with axes, injuring four.
