Rockets Slam into Civilian Vehicles in Ukraine
Harrowing video showing the shelling of Mariupol emerged on YouTube, showing dashcam footage from part of the attack that left 30 people dead. The video shows a driver going down a back road behind a few other cars. Soon, the sounds of explosions echo outside and the driver starts to yell. Then, an orange explosion ignites a building on the side of the road, which spurs the driver to surge forward which almost puts the car in the blast radius of another explosion which consumed a car in front. Mariupol, a strategic port city on the Black Sea still controlled by Ukrainian forces, has been a symbolic bulwark against the separatist advance that if captured by the rebels would give them a land corridor to Russia-controlled Crimea. The city had been relatively quiet for months before Saturday’s attack.
