Honoring Marines at Arlington

Share

Since his wife, Linda, passed away in 2010, Lt. Col. Laurence K. Burgess has returned each year the Saturday before the Marine Corps' birthday to place Marine Corps flags in Arlington National Cemetery. Since the first year, he's gone from placing a handful of flags at his wife's graveside by himself, to placing 1,000 flags at the gravesides of Marines and their families throughout section 60 with a dozen volunteers today, Nov. 8, 2014. "The birthday is very special to our family," Burgess said. "Linda always made it a big day ... We remember our Marines, when you come out here on our birthday, every Marine has a flag.”
