A First - The Bomb Disposal Robot

    After a number of British Army peacekeepers were killed whilst trying to defuse IRA bombs left in civilians areas of Northern Ireland, a new mechanical robot was designed to minimise the risk to bomb squad officers. This bomb disposal robot (and future, improved versions) went on to save the livesof hundreds of bomb disposal experts and thousands of civilians in Northern Ireland. They are still used today in Northern ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.
