C-17 Part Falls into Man's Backyard

Air Force officials are inspecting a C-17 aircraft, after a piece broke off of the wing and fell into a Northwest San Antonio neighborhood Thursday morning. Some residents described the sound as it landed in one homeowner's backyard as a thud, others say it sounded like a gun shot. Nate Martinez says the fiberglass part hit his barbecue grill. No one on the ground was hurt. Military officials say the aircraft was on its way to McCord Air Force Base after getting maintenance at Boeing's Port San Antonio hangar. The Martinez family says Boeing told them it would contact them later. The company issued a statement saying safety is a top priority, for its crew members, passengers and the community.
