Airbus 320 Aborts Takeoff in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Passengers have been evacuated from US Airways flight 1702 after an aborted takeoff Thursday night at Philadelphia International Airport. A US Airways official says the Airbus 320 was taking off for Fort Lauderdale, Florida and did get airborne, but the captain elected to abort the takeoff for reasons unknown. The official says the nose gear collapsed when the aircraft returned to the ground. The official also says 149 passengers and five crew members were on board at the time of the incident. The airport says passengers have been evacuated onto the runway and are awaiting pickup.
