Military Wife Quote: A man leaves home

Share

I first read this quote in one of my mom’s cookbooks. At the time, what I thought the man was in “need” of was a good pizza. My mom could make good pizza. That guy should just come to our house.

Later I would read this quote and think how sexist it was—that the big man was out in the world and the little woman was supposed to be home making things beautiful and meaningful and slapping down a really good pizza.

These days I read this quote and I think of all the days my military husband and I spend out there in the world trying to make order, peace, meaning, fun. Yet the longer we are out there, the more  relieved we are to just to get home.  And enjoy a little order, a little peace, a little meaning, a lotta fun.  That's why this quote worries me a little...what is it going to mean for us next?
