Making Merry and Bright

Share

My family is having some trouble getting into the Christmas spirit this year.  We have managed to put up a tree, with ornaments and everything, and there are presents underneath.  However, it just doesn't feel like Christmas. I have been trying to make it more Christmasy but it doesn't seem to be working very well.  It just feels like any other day that Dad happens to be home.

There is something about moving that makes holidays hard.  You get a picture of what Christmas is supposed to look like in one house, and it is hard to shake that vision.  This is the second year in this house and I still don't feel quite right.  There is no fireplace, so no fire, and no mantle for stockings.  And it is warm - I always have trouble feeling holiday-ish when people are playing outside without snow gear.

We try to keep holiday traditions, but sometimes a tradition that works perfectly in one location just doesn't work in another place.  I haven't really seen decorated houses, though I hear there is a spectacularly lit town about an hour away.  We have a gingerbread house decorating party each year, but logistics of this location have forced us to alter and delay that event.

I've been playing Christmas music, baking, burning holiday scented candles and it just isn't working.  Heck, I'm even wearing a Santa hat while I type!

If any of you have tricks for making the holidays merry and bright, I am open to suggestions.  I am running out of time to get my jolly happening!
