Troopswap, a deal-a-day site launched earlier this year only available to troops, military families and veterans, is giving us a $20 credit for their site to pass on to one of our readers.
Troopswap offers a new local daily discount in select areas (right now just Hampton Roads, San Diego and Washington D.C.) and a new deal good anywhere in the country once or twice a week.
Even though they don’t have something every day that is available in my area, I’ve been able to find great deals through this site that I haven’t been able to get consistently anywhere else. That’s stuff like $10 of a $20 Amazon.com gift card and half off a Walmart gift card. Yes, please! Today's deal is on a series of greatly discounted lego toys. Sweet!
A few things that make Troopswap super cool compared to the other deal-a-day sites: The company was founded by veterans and all of their local employees are military spouses or veterans. They donate 10 percent of all of their profits to the Wounded Warrior Project. ... and all deals are only available to military members and veterans, which they ensure by requiring accounts to be “verified” before a person can make a purchase.
To make it happen a new member must “certify” their account using a USAA member number if they have one, signing-up through a .mil email account, directly calling or emailing the Troopswap staff, or uploading other military document (like a DD214).
It’s true -- the validation process is a bit of a hassle. But they are doing it for a completely legitimate reason, in my view. Since many of their vendors are providing the products at a discount specifically because they are going to military folks, the verification makes the deals possible. If that’s the case I figure the bother is worth it.
