They're Coming Home!

As you’ve probably heard by now, President Obama today declared an end to the Iraq war and announced that all American troops would be withdrawn by the end of the year.

And all the military spouses said “amen.”

My reaction to this news is simply that of a huge sigh of relief. While my husband has never deployed to Iraq, I can imagine the gigantic weight off those who have sent their servicemember over there multiple times.

It is nothing but a blessing to know that though deployments continue to Afghanistan and my spouse will likely go there again, Iraq will soon be one less thing to worry about.

It’s been a long war for those on the homefront and for those who faced multiple deployments. Ten years of coming and going to “the sandbox” is nothing to shake a stick at. I know we are all grateful and ready to give those returning a “job well done” and the families of those who will never come home a deep “thank you.”

What was your reaction when you heard the news and how does your spouse feel about it?
