Does The Extended Family Care?

Share

Do you ever feel that your deployed family member is forgotten by extended family? The ones who have had a good life-long relationship with their aunts, uncles and cousins?

We've made countless road trips ‘home’ from various states over the years.  The relatives were always happy to see us and host dinners and parties. We told them our door was open if they wanted to visit us at our 'home of the moment'.

In between were the deployments without a peep of concern expressed for my husband. No packages, emails or cards sent, despite sending out the mailing address.

The part of the family who know this life, or lives a similar one, get it. They keep in touch, they call when coming to the area for a visit, they've emailed my husband or sent a letter.  We’re so thankful for them.

But I guess for some of those who don’t know this lifestyle, out of sight is out of mind.

Have you run into this problem with extended family?
