We told you yesterday about the new e-coupon “loyalty card” the commissary will offer starting this fall. Thanks to the responsive folks at the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), we now have even more information on how this will work.
Disappointing news first: unlike e-coupon cards used in many civilian stores, the commissary will not allow shoppers to “stack” e-coupons with paper manufacturer’s coupon. This is a major bummer for those of us who are strategic couponers. Additionally, we will only be able to load the card from the commissary’s e-coupon site - no using Cellfire or other e-coupon providers.
The good news for those who dislike the idea of carrying yet another card or form of ID around is that it will be available in key chain card form. We will be able to pick-up the card at our local commissary (including, as far as has been told me, OCONUS locations) and then register and activate it online.
As unfortunate as it is that they will not allow us to stack e-coupons and regular coupons, let’s look on the bright side for a second. A program like this is major, major progress for the commissary and, hopefully, a sign of improvements to come. The card was introduced thanks to consistent feedback from shoppers. Let’s keep up the input and hope they eventually change their stacking policy.
