So, tonight my daughter was reading the Stars and Stripes newspaper, and she says something along the lines of "Kip's leaving?"
Huh? (Insert confused Mom face here.)
"This article says that there is going to be a new commander of Africom."
As I thought to myself, Who in the heck is Kip?, my husband asked, "Do you mean General Ward?"
"Yeah, Kip. We know him from the AFN commercials. He's on there all the time."
So there you have it. My children think they can call generals by their nicknames, based on AFN commercials. Thank goodness we don't live in Stuttgart - I can see the scene in the commissary now. Come to think of it, I should probably warn them that our CO's wife doesn't expect children to be calling out, "Hi Katie" when she's out for her walk, either.
