My husband was deployed for the past two winters in a row. We also live in a fairly warm state these days, so he's had little use for any of his heavy winter clothes the whole time we've been stationed here. But this year was our first time to travel home to see family since 2003, and it meant dragging out heavy coats and sweaters. I climbed up on our stepstool to get a wool sweater off the top shelf of our closet and found it covered in half an inch of dust.

Now there's a lasting consequence of deployment I hadn't thought of yet: having to hand-wash a layer of dust out of his sweater on the day before we left for vacation...
