A member of my extended Marine Corps family is going to be transformed tomorrow. I am so excited because I get to be there for his transformation!!
Midshipman 1st Class Caleb will graduate from the Naval Academy and be commissioned as 2nd Lt. Caleb, USMC.
He will raise his right hand and take the following oath:
I, Caleb, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter. So help me God."
It is an oath his father took. It is an oath Lancelot took 23 years ago at the Naval Academy. Caleb will be transformed from a military brat to an officer in the finest military on Earth. He will travel familiar roads and blaze some trails of his own.
His parents will be transformed too. They will go from being a retired Marine family to proud Marine parents.
For Caleb and his family, the journey begins anew tomorrow.
