As a military spouse, I really must say I was proud when Ben Stein wrote a piece titled The Real Stars, for his Monday Night At Morton's gig.
I recall it being sent to me via e-mail, I read the piece online and I never did get tired of reading it. Heck I think I might have sent it to every military service member I knew. It really was refreshing to read.
I copied part of his essay for those of you that have not read it below the fold.
Realstars are not riding around in the backs of limousines or in Porschesor getting trained in yoga or Pilates and eating only raw fruit whilethey have Vietnamese girls do their nails. They can be interesting, nice people, but they are not heroes to me any longer.
A real star is the soldier of the 4th Infantry Division who pokedhis head into a hole on a farm near Tikrit, Iraq. He could have beenmet by a bomb or a hail of AK-47 bullets. Instead, he faced an abjectSaddam Hussein and the gratitude of all of the decent people of theworld.

We have discussed many times here at SpouseBuzz, about our all volunteer Service in the United States. We are very proud to be able to call these brave men and women our spouses. Or children, parents, brothers, whatever the case may be. We are proud. And knowing less than 1% of the population serves in the Armed Forces inspires me.
And I know, each of us cherishes the integrity that our spouses show when they perform their duties. I know many of us are amazed by them.
So I think we will enjoy reading Ben Steins book, The Real Stars. It is a compilation of his essays and articles about what is good and right in America.
