Online Financial Training For Mil Families

Ever thought that you could learn a little more about your finances?  Most of us have, particularly because military money can be a little more complicated than "regular" money. I spent all my time here at The Paycheck Chronicles trying to help you know more, but sometimes just blog posts aren't enough.  Thankfully, a new program is coming to help!

Coming 12 October 2015, the Military Family Advisory Network will be offering a brand new resource to help military families with their finances:  a new financial literacy program called MilCents.

MilCents is a 10-week program designed specifically for military families, offering information, resources, and online support to help improve your financial well-being.

Topics being covered include:

• Learn how to read a Leave and Earnings Statement

• Understand your current financial situation, including monthly net

• Get your credit score and learn how to improve it

• Categorize your spending and saving

• Learn how to tackle debt

• Develop a plan for retirement

• Create a budget

• Learn how to protect your money and avoid predatory lenders

In addition, MilCents will share resources such as online programs that will help you with your money education.  Educational resources will be complemented with online support including Google Hangouts and Twitter chats.  Participants will be supported by financial experts from the partnership organizations, who will be available to answer questions and have conversations about the topics being discussed.

MilCents is a partnership between the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN), the Better Business Bureau Military & Veterans Initiative (BBB/M&VI), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Foundation, and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).

I firmly believe that there is never too much financial education.  I learn something new about money every single day!  If there is any chance that you might still have a few things to learn about finances, be sure to sign up with the MilCents preview page to be informed when the registration process opens for real.
