Free Entry To The Mariners' Museum

Are you near Hampton Roads, Virginia?  This Sunday, 19 April 2015, the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia is sponsoring a Military Appreciation event at the Mariners' Museum and Park located in Newport News, Virginia.  From 11 am to 5 pm, admission will be free for active duty military and their dependents, with proper military identification.  Designated as America's National Maritime Museum, the Mariners' Museum is one of the largest maritime museums in the United States.

The Mariners' Museum contains 90,000 square feet of exhibition space, including the USS Monitor Center, which houses 210 tons of artifacts from the Civil War ironclad ship Monitor.  Exhibits include maritime artifacts from around the world.  The 550 acre park contains Lake Maury, a 167 acre lake, and the Noland trail, a five-mile shoreline trail with fourteen bridges.

In addition to the museum and park attractions, the USO will be providing arts and crafts and face painting for the kids.

The USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia to enhance the quality of life and public support for armed service members and their families through a wide variety of events and projects.  It serves approximately 450,000 military members and their families annually at eleven locations.

I just checked the weather forecast for Newport News for Sunday.  It is supposed to be cloudy, but warm and dry.  Put the family in the car and enjoy some free fun!
