Operation Purple Camps 2014

Applications are now open for the 2014 season of the fabulous Operation Purple summer camps.  Organized by the National Military Family Association (NMFA) and supported by many generous sponsors and the offering camps themselves, these camps are free to the selected military families.

Operation Purple summer camps are designed to give military kids an opportunity to experience summer camp with their peers.  Many camps offer specific military-related experiences that help foster the bond between the children and offer the kids some insight into the lives of their service member parents.  Priority is given to families who are within the deployment cycle, including pre- and post-deployment, and to children who have not previously attended an Operation Purple summer camp.

Camps are located in 14 locations across the country.  Each camp has different dates and serves different age groups.  Check out the list of camps to see if there is a location near you.

My kids had the opportunity to attend an Operation Purple summer camp during my husband's last deployment.  They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with other kids who understood their issues, plus they enjoyed a great summer camp experience.  After eight months of solo parenting, I was delighted to have five days completely to myself and the break gave me the chance to recharge for the rest of the deployment.  I can not say enough good things about the Operation Purple summer camp program.

Spots are very limited, and the application period closes on 24 March 2014.  Don't delay in applying.
