This week, 24 through 28 February 2014, is Military Saves Week. What is Military Saves Week? It is an awareness campaign trying to encourage military families to spend a little time thinking about their financial readiness.
Military installations worldwide should be having Military Saves Week events. Events may include classes, tables at the Commissary, Exchange, or other venues, or special features in base media such as newspapers or AFN.
In addition, you can check out the Military Saves website, and I'll be discussing the topic here at The Paycheck Chronicles.
One of my complaints about the Military Saves program is the lack of a clear catch-phrase. One participant quoted the phrase, "Build Wealth, Not Debt." I'm not sure if that is an official Military Saves saying, but it is a good start and generally sums up the principles of the Military Saves Campaign.
Keep an eye on your base for Military Saves events, or ask at your family readiness center to find out what special things are happening this week. Every little piece of financial education helps, regardless of where you are on your financial journey.
