The first military payday of 2014 is coming up next week. The mid-month January 2014 pay day is Wednesday, 15 January 2014. This pay should show the new 2014 pay rates, BAH allowances and BAS allowances.
The date of your deposit will depend on your bank and sometimes even your account type. Most banks and credit unions deposit active duty military pay on the actual payday. However, some financial institutions offer early direct deposit as a benefit to their customers.
One Business Day Early
Of all the early pay schemes used by different banks and credit unions, the most common is crediting the deposit one business day early. Two big military-oriented companies that pay one business day early are USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union. I know there are others - please let me know in the comments if you know who they are. Banks and credit unions that credit direct deposits one business day early will post those deposits sometime on Tuesday, 14 January 2014.
Service Credit Union
Service Credit Union's policy is more flexible than most others. Service Credit Union posts active duty military pay "up to two business days" prior to the actual payday, if the payroll information is received early. Service Credit Union does not guarantee that the pay will be deposited early.
Service Credit Union members with active duty military pay could see their mid-month pay credited as early as Monday, 13 January 2014.
Navy Federal Credit Union
Oh, Navy Federal. I mostly love you, but I hate trying to explain how you deposit pay.
There are two issues with Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU.) First, they have two different paydays depending on which type of account you use. Second, they show pay as "pending" on the day before it will actually be available, then it is posted overnight and available for use on the next business day.
Keeping these things in mind, you get the following information: NFCU members who use Active Duty checking accounts will see their pay pending on Monday, 13 January 2014, to be posted overnight and available for use on Tuesday, 14 January 2014. NFCU members who use any other type of checking account will see their pay pending on Tuesday, 14 January 2014, to be posted overnight and available for use on Wednesday, 15 January 2014.
