31 December 2013 Military Pay

One normal payday, and we're back to "always something odd."   The next active duty military payday is Tuesday, 31 December 2013.  It is the last payday of 2013, and while end-of-month paydays are supposed to come on the 1st, the end of December payday always comes early because 1 January is always a federal holiday.

Wondering when you'll get paid?  First thing you need to know is the policies and practices of your bank or credit union.  There are all sorts of ways that financial institutions handle deposits, and many offer early direct deposit as a benefit to their customers (or a way to get more business, depending on your perspective.)

One Business Day Early

When it comes to early direct deposit, the most common offer is  direct deposit of military pay “one business day early.”  This includes USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union PMCU.  Customers who bank with financial institutions that offer deposits one business day early should expect to have their deposit posted on Monday, 30 December 2013.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) offers a variety of account types.  Which day your pay will be deposited is based upon the type of checking account you use for your pay deposit.  Members who have their pay deposited into their Active Duty checking account will see their pay pending on Friday, 27 December 2013 , to be posted overnight and available for use on Saturday, 28 December 2013.  Members with any other type of checking account will see their pay pending on Monday, 30 December 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Tuesday, 31 December 2013.

Service Credit Union

Service Credit Union advertises that it will deposit funds up to two business days early,” pending the receipt of information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS.)  Tuesday paydays are the hardest to guess.  It is common for Service Credit Union to post Tuesday payday deposits on Saturday, but it can also be Monday.  Please keep in mind that Service Credit Union never guarantees that their deposits will be posted early.

Everyone Else

If your bank is not listed here, and your bank does not regularly deposit your pay prior to payday, then you should expect to see your pay sometime on Tuesday 31 December 2013.  However, if your bank does usually direct deposit your pay early, let me know in the comments.  Information from readers is how I know about so many different types of accounts.  It really helps others when you share what you know.

As always, pay can come at any time during the day.  For more information, see  What Time Will I Get Paid?
