2013 Pay Raise, One Step Closer

2 January 2013:  The National Defense Authorization Act for 2013 has been signed!

21 December 2012:  The bill has been signed by both houses of Congress.  Now it awaits the President's signature.

According to an email sent out today by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), House and Senate negotiators have agreed to a final version of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).  While it has not yet been voted on by the full chambers, it should be approved later this week.

The big news in the NDAA is a 1.7% pay raise for all active duty servicemembers.  We've got those projected pay charts here at, and you can see the expected pay changes.  Increases ranges from $24 per month for an E-1 with less than four months of service to $180 per month for an o-6 with more than thirty years of service.

In light of the often-discussed military pay freezes, and the general economic situation in America, I am thankful that the military is receiving any pay raise at all in 2013.
