This payday is going to be tricky for a lot of folks, and not just because it is October. Monday paydays always cause lots of confusion and stress. Let's see if we can sort it out so you can plan.
The next military payday is Monday, 1 October 2012. Most folks will see their military pay deposited at some time on Monday, 1 October 2012. However, some banks and credit unions offer early direct deposit as a benefit to their customers.
The most common way that happens is with pay deposited one business day early. This includes USAA and PMCU. One business day earlier than Monday is Friday, 28 September 2012. Customers with these two banking institutions, plus any others that offer one business day early deposit, will see their pay deposited at some time on Friday.
Service Credit Union offers their early direct deposit up to two business days early, pending receipt of the information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). A Monday payday is one of the harder ones to ensure that you'll have the information early. While chances are good that Service Credit Union will be able to make the deposits on Thursday, 27 September 2012, I wouldn't make any important decisions based upon that money being available on Thursday. There are far too many things that could happen, and it isn't a guarantee. I'd assume that the pay will probably be available on Friday and be pleasantly surprised if it is there earlier.
Bank with Navy Federal Credit Union? The date of your deposit depends on what type of account you use for your military pay deposits. Members who have their pay deposited into a Active Duty Checking account should expect to see their pay pending on Thursday, 27 September 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 28 September 2012. Members who have their pay deposited into any other type of account should expect to see their pay pending on Friday, 28 September 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Saturday, 29 September. Seem confusing, what with the Saturday and all? It does to me, too, but I trust their pay calendar to be right.
